In Trinidad – The medical intern at the centre of a racist rant on social media has been removed from duty. Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh on Tuesday confirmed that the intern is now subject to an investigation into her social media behaviour and will not be allowed back to work until that investigation is complete. “As of this morning she has been removed from all clinical duties. She will have no contact with patients or her peers,” Deyalsingh said. The young intern, in a Facebook rant said that “coolies” were “eating flesh and drinking blood across the land”. She used the hashtag “believe me I am a doctor among them”. Since that post, the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association expressed its concern over the remarks and called for an investigation. The Minister says that the Chief Medical Officer and the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago will conduct the investigation into the matter. He expects the matter wrapped up within the next two to three weeks but it was important to give the woman a chance to defend herself.
