The St. Lucia Athletics Association will stage the National Individual Track & Field Championship on Saturday June 25th, and Sunday June 26th, from 9:00 am respectively, at the George Odlum Stadium.

423 athletes from clubs across St. Lucia, along with athletes from neighbouring Martinique, are registered to participate this weekend at the championship.

This year’s championship will see some memorable clashes such as Rosen Daniel and Corneil Lionel in the men’s 200m, where both athletes are trying to meet the Olympic qualifying standard in the 200m. Jeannelle Scheper facing off against 2015 Sports Woman of the year Levern Spencer in the ladies high jump while Makeba Alcide will attempt to show the St. Lucian public why she is the local heptathlon queen when she comes up against the “Hept Kid” Shermalyn Albert of Morne Stars.

Julien Alfred of Survivors will attempt to defend her title as the fastest female in St. Lucia when she goes up against Verlyn Taylor and Pernell Mitchell both from Abliene Sports Club.

Michael Biscette and Jason Sayers, the 2016 CARICOM 10K representatives going up against Neville Dupre, Winsbert Sylvester and Wayne St. Ange in the 5000m. A keen battle is expected between Michael James and Marbeq Edgar in the 1500m.

All athletes and officials are asked to note that transportation to the stadium leaves the Derek Walcott square at 7:00 am on both days.

All Technical Officials are invited to a meeting on Thursday June 23, 2016 from 5pm at the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports conference room, Blue Coral Building.
