Vendors are expressing outrage following news of an 18 dollar increase on their rental fees. The CCC has announced that vendors will now be charged the VAT rate on rent, therefore amounting to an 18 dollar additional charge. According to the CCC, the VAT office has made it clear that by law, vendors are required to pay the VAT rate but have not been doing so. President of the Vendors Association, Peter Isaac, says there was absolutely no consultation on the matter and calls the action unfair. Vendors argue that the increase comes at a time when they are not making much revenue. However new mayor, Peterson Francis, has made it clear that the CCC is now taking a business approach to fulfilling its mandate of upkeep of the city. He says to do so, the CCC needs to ensure that it is collecting its revenue.
