March 8th will be recognized as International Women’s day. Raise your voice St Lucia is planning to host a march to bring attention to gender issues and the lack of laws that protect women, children and families. Catherine Sealys of Raise Your Voice St Lucia, says the March will seek to raise people’s consciousness and call the attention of the government to these issues. She says the powers that be are not doing enough to advance the cause of women, particularly where it matters – on the law books. She has steadily been calling for the enactment of the OECS Family Law Bill. She says she hopes that the government will muster the political will to implement the Bill that speaks to issues such as domestic violence and age of consent. Another issue that Raise Your Voice St Lucia says it hopes will be on the front burner for government is an amendment of the civil code.
