National Security Minister, Senator Hermangild Francis, has confirmed to the press that there is no fixed transfer date set for returning prisoners back to Her Majesty’s prison in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). The 21 prisoners, classified as high-risk, were transferred to the Bordelais Correctional Facility following severe damage to sections of Her Majesty’s Prison during Hurricane Irma. Back in December, BVI officials stated that the prisoners were likely to spend six to nine months in St Lucia before being transferred back to the territory. Minister Francis says that broad timeframe still holds as time is needed to repair the BVI prison and ensure it is secure. He says the financial arrangement for the upkeep of the prisoners, also still holds. The BVI provides a monthly stipend of US thirteen thousand dollars for the upkeep of the 21 prisoners.
