Two students and a teacher perished in a drowning in Vieux Fort The three drowning took place on Saturday, March 31, sometime around noon. Two of the drowning victims were washed out to sea by a huge wave’ and the third reportedly encountered difficulty while attempting to save them and eventually submerged. It is reported that two of the bodies have since been recovered while a search continues for the third. About midday on Monday 2nd April, marine police recovered the body believed to be that of Spartan University lecturer, Dr Boopathi, at Cas en Bas beach. The lecturer and two students, all of Indian descent, were swept away by a wave on Saturday 31st March while they were along the Canelles coast. An online fundraising campaign has been launched to raise funds to support the victims’ families, and to assist in returning the bodies to India.
