Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, on Friday, defended his decision to appoint His Excellency Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac as the island’s 6th Governor General. Prime Minister Chastanet says the new Governor General was a great choice, given his service to the country for decades be it as a Mayor, Minister or President of the Senate. He also touted Sir Cenac’s knowledge of the country’s history and constitution. When it comes to His Excellency’s more controversial past – having crossed the floor, leaving the opposition SLP to join the governing UWP – Prime Minister Chastanet say it took courage to do what Sir Neville Cenac felt was the right decision. He drew comparison to Sir John leaving the SLP to join the UWP and says such things are not as foreign to St Lucia as some make it seem.
