The new Head of State, officially took the oath on Friday morning. Governor General, His Excellency, Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac, spoke about the beauty and strength of St Lucia and the responsibility of each and every St Lucian to work towards the development of the nation. He noted that while he was appointed by the government he is no less the Governor General for the opposition as well. He spoke about his commitment to justice and to the people of St Lucia, a passion he says he held since his entry into politics in 1969. He was also not without a sense of humour, as he appeared in Parliament to take the oath of office. Addressing the parliament he apologized for disappointing those who, from the memes circulating online, thought he would be sporting a wide brimmed hat.
