The Ministry of Labour is embarking on a drive to clamp down on foreign nationals working illegally in Saint Lucia.

The Labour Department, says it has been brought to its attention that there are individuals employed at various organizations without a valid Work Permit. The country`s Labour Laws mandate that overseas nationals desirous of employment in Saint Lucia, must first obtain a work permit or exemption where applicable. Labour Minister, Stephenson King, is warning employers and or employees who are currently in contravention of the law to visit the Labour Department to regularize their employment status urgently. Failure to comply will result in the case being passed on to the Immigration Department for full enforcement of the law. Those who contravene the law are liable to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both.
