The Seventh Day Adventist Church is encouraging parents of student athletes to keep their children away from the inter-secondary school sports meet on Saturday.

The SDA Youth Director wrote a letter to parents addressing the issue and encouraging them not to break their Sabbath keeping, to allow their children to attend Inter-Sec. The Inter – Sec Sports competition has previously been held on weekdays but this year was slated for Saturday. Many SDA followers expressed the view that the hosting of the meet on a Saturday is a show of disrespect to all Seventh Day Adventists worshippers. Some SDA church leaders say the matter has been blown out of proportion, claiming that the intent of the letter has been misconstrued as an attack on the sports initiative. Ministry officials have since announced that Inter Sec will be postponed due to the funeral of Sir Derek Walcott.
