The Government has signaled its intention to create world-class facilities to encourage youth to pursue their dreams and to show them that the government takes their goals seriously – by supporting them not only in words but also in deeds. The government says the evidence is clear that youngsters who are engaged in Sport early in life are unlikely to be tempted by the lure of gangs and crime. The goal is to create organized, wide-ranging community based activities for St Lucian youth. This year the government says it is committed to launching after-school coaching and learning programmes as well as specialized schools with a dedication to athletics and the Arts. The Gros Islet Secondary School will be one such school dedicated to the sporting discipline.
